Is Your Family Looking For A Tune-Up In Your Relationships?

Would you and your family like to learn how to do life differently together?

Have you become incredibly busy and disconnected from each other over the years?

Do you want help redefining your connection and learning to operate from a place of shared values?

Maybe you’re a parent who’s struggling to support your children or see eye to eye with them about important issues. Or perhaps you’re an adult child who’s experiencing conflict with your parents because they don’t seem to understand your perspective or way of life. Or maybe there’s a disconnect between you and your siblings as you’ve gotten older and you’ve realized that your relationships could use a tune-up. No matter what the source of your family conflict is, you might be thinking that it’s time to get support.

All Families Experience Dysfunction From Time To Time

Despite what you see on your social media feed, no family is perfect, and the ones that appear perfect often have the most strife going on under the surface. There is great wisdom in accepting that family relationships will go through periods of disconnection. After all, we are all constantly changing as individuals, so it’s only natural for our relationships to change, too. Children may grow up to hold different values and beliefs than their parents; siblings who once had common goals and interests may drift apart as the years go on. All of these developments are normal, and they can all lead to tension and disagreement among family members.

In today’s world, familial disconnection is more common than it ever was. It’s become increasingly hard for families to live in the same area, as more and more people live far apart because of work purposes. It’s also become increasingly challenging for parents and children to see eye to eye, since the world that kids are growing up in is radically different from the world of their parents. To navigate these differences, sometimes even the best of families need external support.

Every Family Should Ask Itself: What Do We Want Our Family To Look Like?

Oftentimes, conflict arises in families because they simply don’t have a clearcut idea of how they want their family to function. Just as an organization needs to operate from a place of shared values and understanding, so should families. This doesn’t mean that everyone needs to agree at all times—it simply means that families should have a clear roadmap that they can refer to when disagreements come about.

Coaching is a chance to explore what you want that roadmap to look like. By allowing all of your individual perspectives to shine through, you can learn to compromise more effectively and arrive at a deeper understanding of your family’s needs and goals.

Coaching Can Help You And Your Family Experience Connection At The Highest Level

I am a former educator, current therapist, and IFC-certified coach with decades of experience helping individuals, couples, and families achieve their goals. I care deeply about your family’s story and I want to see all of you thrive. As a coach, my aim is to help you and your loved ones maximize your joy by learning new communication skills and conflict resolution techniques. I will teach you to live from a more empowered and connected state of mind, enabling you to relate to each other in a more intentional and thoughtful way.

Your Family Loves Each Other, But You’re Not All On The Same Page

Deep down, you know that you and your loved ones want to understand each other and make things right. But as time has gone on, your paths have taken you in different directions and led you to different conclusions about how a family should function. This is especially the case if you’ve raised kids who are now raising their own kids. It’s hard to stay on the same page regarding values, expectations, and goals for family relationships. Perhaps you want to instill new plans for connection but you’re not sure where to start.

If you want to experience meaning, depth, and connection in your family, I encourage you to pursue life coaching with me. My mission is to help you and your family define your values and live according to them, allowing you to be more congruent in your words and actions and bring peace back into the home.

What To Expect In Family Coaching Sessions

In the beginning, I’ll generally meet with the leaders of the family (i.e., usually the parents, but sometimes this could be adult children) to discuss your family’s challenges and then work on incorporating the other members of the family into sessions. That said, I recognize that every family is different and I always adjust my treatment plan accordingly. I believe that you and your loved ones know yourselves best, so I will do whatever is most comfortable for everyone involved in coaching.

Once each family member feels seen, heard, and understood, we will determine the core issues and then develop a game plan for addressing them. Coaching sessions can focus on resolving conflict, improving communication, identifying values, navigating life transitions together, and anything else that you and your family need to work on. I also want to help you play to your strengths, allowing you to recognize what you already do well and leverage those gifts to maximize your time in coaching.

Tailoring Your Family Coaching Plan

  • I draw from a wide range of approaches in family coaching, some of which are listed below:

    • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy—Just as a family is made of many different parts, so is each individual. IFS can help each family member connect with all of their individual parts and use that knowledge to deepen their connection with every other family member.

    • Ikigai Therapy—In Japanese, Ikigai essentially means “reason for living,” and in my practice, I use this approach to help families enhance their sense of purpose so that they can work toward common goals together.

    • Motivational Interviewing—The goal of Motivational Interviewing is to help you and your family members arrive at your own family solutions through a process of self-exploration and self-discovery.

Regardless of which approach or combination of approaches works best for you and your family, I’m confident that I can provide the tune-up that your relationships need and help you achieve connection at the highest and most meaningful level.

You May Have Some Questions About Family Coaching…

What if family coaching makes us argue more?

I have years of experience working as a family coach and I wouldn’t be doing what I do if it didn’t produce such life-changing results. While disagreements may arise as we discuss your family’s challenges, the structured and solution-focused nature of my work can help us work through these disagreements smoothly and effectively. Besides, the goal of coaching is not simply to argue less—it’s to have shared values and goals that you can look to when arguments arise, allowing you to navigate your disagreements peacefully.

What if certain family members don’t want to attend sessions?

Obviously, the decision to pursue coaching needs to be a voluntary one. The process works best when everyone is involved. That said, if a family member is resistant to coming, I would still encourage you and the rest of your family to do coaching anyway. And for what it’s worth, I also offer individual relationship coaching and couples coaching, so I believe that I can accommodate your needs no matter what.

What if we have trouble finding a time to meet because we’re all busy?

This is a very normal concern, especially if there are parents and adult children attending sessions. The good news is that I am very flexible and offer both online and in-person sessions. If it works better to meet via telehealth, I am more than open to doing so. You and your family owe yourselves this time to work on your hangups together, so I encourage you to make space for coaching regardless of how busy your schedules are!
